Recently, one Diva has become more and more notable through her absence. This Diva has only appeared on RAW twice this calendar year; for the past three weeks she has been confined to Main Event and has only made 14 appearances for the company, including house shows, in 2016. The Diva I am talking about is none other than Norwich’s finest – Paige.
Just under three months ago, Paige was challenging for the Divas title against Charlotte at WWE Tables Ladders & Chairs, and now she can’t even get onto the weekly B show. All this begs the question, what has WWE done with Paige?
Widely regarded as an extremely talented in-ring performer and a strong promo, Paige hasn’t had an easy ride to stardom. Having made her debut in 2006, Paige wrestled on the independent scene in the UK, as well as worldwide, up until when WWE signed her. She even beat her own mother for a title in England. (That one is for you JBL).
Recently, as mentioned earlier, Paige has only made 16 wrestling appearances for the company this year. Two of those appearances came on flagship show – RAW. 4 appearances of the 16 came on Main Event, while the remaining 10 were all on the house show circuit. Her most recent appearance on RAW resulted in a defeat to Summer Rae in 3 minutes and 42 seconds.
This is hard to fathom considering that this time last year, Paige was firmly in the title picture. She actually won the Divas title on her first night on the main roster, defeating AJ Lee on RAW the night after WrestleMania 30. It is extremely hard to comprehend that this wasn’t even two years ago, given Paige’s current standing.
WrestleMania 32 is just around the corner and, as always, it promises to be the biggest ever. With her star power; unique character; sound in-ring ability and popularity, WrestleMania will surely be missing out on one of the company’s top female stars.
