Tributes pour in from around the world as British star Kris Travis passes away.
With a heavy, heavy heart we regret to report that one of the UK’s brightest wrestling stars, Kris Travis, has passed away at the age of 32 after a long battle with stomach cancer. Travis began his wrestling career in 2002. He fought his way to the top over an impressive 13 year career which included facing WWE’s X-Pac, Finn Balor, Neville and Kevin Owens, as well as some of the best talents in the UK.
In 2014 he was diagnosed with stomach cancer and after a brave and sensational return to the ring, he was forced to retire after his illness returned.
While Travis was out of action, fans and promoters pulled together to help raise money for Kris who was unemployed, which resulted in a number of Trav Aid shows, and merchandise on sale all over the country as the BritWres scene pulled together for a friend in need. After having 3/4 of his stomach removed, Travis was on the road to recovery as he still remained in high spirits and focused on his other love, retro gaming.
In June 2015, PCW held an event they named “Shooting Star” which was to raise funds for Kris. The ending of the show actually saw Kris Travis come out to the ring and after being interrupted by Sha Samuels, it was announced that at the PCW fourth anniversary show in August, the two would go head to head. Unfortunately Sha picked up the win, but the whole crowd were on Travis’ side.
Before he was diagnosed with cancer, Travis was voted as the number #1 wrestler in Britain by both Powerslam and Fighting Spirit Magazine. He also made it to the final six of TNA’s British Bootcamp.
As expected, the whole wrestling community has come together to pay tribute to Travis, we’d like to share some of these tweets below.
From all of us at TWM News, our thoughts are with Kris’ family, friends, colleagues and fans.
