Terminator Resistance
This one surprised most, including reviewers of the game. This game sits at 47 on Metacritic according to critic reviews, but the user score is quite a bit higher at 7.3 (let’s say 73 to keep things similar). And this is echoed when looking at the Steam reviews for the game, with both recent reviews and all reviews showing as very positive.
At first glance, this does look like standard FPS territory, with the game set up in the Terminator universe but taking place 30 years after the events of Judgment day and the future wars which were featured in both T1 and T2.
Critics were harsh on both the visuals of the game and uninspired combat and missions. Yet, looking over at the fan reception to the game, fans just don’t seem to care.
They love the atmosphere that the game has and many have noted that it features a soundtrack that pulls you into the feeling of the movies. Lots of fans have pointed out that this is a better entry to Terminator than any of the last four movies have been able to.
This one is summed up best by saying, not every game needs to have the level of effort as Red Dead Redemption 2 or the storytelling of The Last of Us. I grew up in an era of 12 movie tie in games every month, with most not receiving warm receptions. However, I am not ashamed to say I bought many of these and still enjoyed them. Fans love being able to get further involved in franchises that they like and are more than willing to overlook a few flaws to do so.
This is one to give a chance if the source material is your cup of tea.
