The Conduit

The Nintendo Wii wasn’t a place to go for serious gamers most of the time. It did however have a few notable exceptions that were worth a try.

The motion controls should have been great for FPS games but in truth, there were very few that were able to make it work. Notable mention’s to Red Steel 2 and Ghost Squad for getting this right also, (Ghost Squad is a bit of a guilty pleasure, to be honest).

Wii gamers were unable to experience most other notable FPS releases at the time. In 2009 Xbox, PlayStation and PC owners were able to enjoy games such as Borderlands, Mirror’s Edge and Left 4 Dead 2.

The Wii wasn’t powerful enough to run many of the before mentioned titles, but The Conduit offered a pretty good time considering the technology gap it had.

The game had a lot of options that allowed players to customise settings and buttons mapping, which was nice to see at the time. Although this was not a game that reinvented the wheel, there was a lot of fun to be had with a single-player campaign and also online multiplayer (good god I hated Wii friend codes) and also featured achievements which were something the Wii lacked compared to its bigger brothers.

The game did well enough to get a sequel, which features one of the best, all be it, mental endings that you can experience in a game. I’ll wait while you go look, as words can’t describe this one………..done?…..yeah told you.

It’s fun and a highlight in the Wii back catalogue and well worth a go if you can forgive the shortcomings.

As I said, reviews don’t mean much and it’s something I wish I had realised earlier in life. If something interests you then please give it a try. Game makers and publishers can only continue when they get our support and while we can’t many places currently, it’s a great time to give something a try.
