Borderlands 3 is a first-person action/adventure shooting game that puts you in the shoes of one of four vault hunters on a mission to save the world from the Calypso Twins. The Handsome Jackpot DLC takes your vault hunter on a different mission to help secure and take over the Handsome Jackpot casino for Mad Moxxxi. The Handsome Jackpot is not an online casino but a casino that once you go there, you will never leave.

While the vault hunter-killed Handsome Jack in Borderlands 2 seven years ago, his space casino, the Handsome Jackpot, is still around and being run by a guy known as Pretty Boy. Pretty Boy took over the casino from Jack’s body double, which most people know from previous instalments of the Borderlands games, and has turned the casino into a slum for the people stuck there on the Handsome Jackpot. Miss Moxxxi hires the vault hunter to go and defeat Pretty Boy and take control of the casino for herself with goals to clean up the rift raft that currently inhabit the casino.

New and Old Faces: How the Handsome Jackpot DLC Appeals to All

The Handsome Jackpot DLC has some familiar friends and foes from the Borderlands series, along with a new cast of characters to the Borderlands series. Hyperion Loader Bots, who were part of Borderlands 2, make a comeback in this DLC to stop the vault hunter on his mission to help Moxxxi and her ambition to take over the Handsome Jackpot.

Jack’s body double, better known by his real name of Timothy Lawrence, makes his third appearance in the Borderland series as he was the Doppelganger that players got to use in Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel! and the person players learned about during the Borderlands 2 storyline.

Besides the new boss of Pretty Boy, the vault hunter can find other sub-bosses and NPCs like Double Down Domino, All-in Allan, Scraptrap Prime, and Freddie the Traitor. While some NPCs provide the vault hunter with missions, some also require you to fight them. The new sub-bosses add a fresh look for Borderlands, while one sub-boss in particular, Scraptrap, shows an evil side of the CL4P-TP bot line that Handsome Jack had destroyed.

The VIP Experience: Handsome Jack’s Idea of Soaking Players

Anyone who remembers Handsome Jack’s character from Borderlands 2 can appreciate how the Handsome Jackpot DLC is set up for players. Jack’s idea of a good time for people visiting his casino was to soak them from all the money they had and make them stay until they had no money left. But Jack isn’t completely cold-hearted, or so he says, as he allows players to get the VIP experience of having his Hyperion bots do the work of opening doors for you, for a fee, of course.

Vault hunters can find these bots and pay them to open the door for them to have what Jack calls his VIP experience. There are also VIP rooms that players will have to spend money on to unlock, but these VIP rooms do have loot for players to grab. While the VIP experience that Jack has to offer doesn’t seem great, there are some things that players can find in the VIP rooms that can help them along the way in the Handsome Jackpot story.

New Loot and Legendary Items for Players to Find

The best part of the Handsome Jackpot DLC is some of the new loot items that vault hunters can find throughout the DLC. The names for most of these new items are related to casino games or gambling lingo, so anyone who has ever gambled before can appreciate the item names for the new loot added to the game. While most of these new items can only be obtained from completing missions and side missions, players can obtain some from defeating enemies they will face during the storyline of this DLC.

Slow Hand, a Hyperion shotgun, Craps, a Torgue pistol, and Lucky 7, a Jakob’s pistol, are just some of the new items you can get in this DLC. With the new storyline, characters, and loot, the Handsome Jackpot DLC is a must-have for Borderlands 3 owners as this DLC doesn’t roll snake-eyes for players.
