Over a decade ago now a young man by the name of Brock Lesnar entered the WWE and was proclaimed “The Next Big Thing” by his manager Paul Heyman. Time quickly passed and Lesnar proved to be just that by becoming the youngest ever WWE champion when he defeated the Rock at SummerSlam 2002. The young man’s career was growing to great heights by the day and his feud with the Undertaker in particular was outstanding. Come 2004 though Lesnar had done what he wanted to do in WWE and wanted to leave and try his hand at American Football. His last match was a losing effort against Bill Goldberg at WrestleMania XX.
Now we fast-forward about 8 years and after a successful MMA career Lesnar was back in WWE with a multi million dollar contract that also allowed him to work only a set number of dates so he didn’t have to always be on WWE television or tours. His first match back was a losing effort against John Cena and then he moved on to a feud with HHH, which brings us up to date to where we are now. The contract Lesnar signed after WrestleMania XXVIII last year was renewed for another year taking him through to WrestleMania XXX next year but with still only a select few dates that Lesnar himself would work.
The big question is should Brock Lesnar ever be WWE champion again? In my opinion yes, if he agrees to work more dates and at least does something similar to what the Rock did recently while he was champion. The fact is Lesnar draws in a big audience from all kinds of fans that maybe wouldn’t watch WWE programming if Lesnar wasn’t on it. That means big money for Vince McMahon and WWE. There’s no question that Brock is still good enough to carry the title and if he wants to put in more effort instead of just thinking about the money I’m sure he would get another run with the strap. The big stopping point is would he really come back almost on a full-time schedule? I would at this moment in time say no because he’s got the perfect set-up already with big pay for little work.
In just a few weeks we will see Triple H vs Lesnar part 3 which if there’s sense used Brock will win to give him a boost for his next feud possibly with CM Punk at SummerSlam later in the year. I would love to see another Cena vs Lesnar feud and for the title to change hands leading to Lesnar going into WrestleMAnia XXX as WWE champion but unless Brock himself wants to put in the extra effort it sadly will not happen.
