The highly anticipated latest WWE video game from 2K hit shops worldwide this past week, but it might be the developer’s last if the reviews are any indication.
We haven’t even got to actual in-depth analysis of the beat-em-up because there are so many glaring glitches involved that have created a major storm on Twitter, with the hashtag #FixWWE2K20 trending.
From faces disappearing and title belts vanishing to entrance music playing long into matches and referees being a little, how shall we put it, friendly, with the female superstars. This game seems to have glitches in abundance, and here we countdown the best (or should that be worst??) of them here.
10. Edit/Create An Invisible Superstar
This is a strange one. For whatever reason, if you want to change the colour of Rey Mysterio’s mask for instance, you will be greeted with the, quite frankly, grotesque image of half his face missing. WWE TV may be rated PG, but this game certainly shouldn’t be. It will give the little blighters nightmares. They’ll never be able to look at Rey Rey the same again.
9. Seeing Double
We shouldn’t really complain about this one considering WWE games are usually so outdated that it’s quite the pleasant surprise the Women’s Tag Team Championships have been featured at all. However, if you want to defend the titles, there have been a few instances where Alexa Bliss will morph into Nikki Cross, and you’ll get two Little Miss’ for the price of one. I’m sure there’s a Jerry Lawler joke to make there, but I’ll leave it.
8. Referee Becoming Too Friendly
WWE referees are often blamed for being too far away from the action to see anything and that seems to have been rectified in WWE 2K20, but to the extreme. Referees will now, on occasion, be literally on top of the action. However, strangely enough only when the women are in the ring. Something tells me, Jerry Lawler had a hand in developing this one.
7. Winning MITB Via Pinfall
We can’t really blame 2K for this one as WWE change the rules of their own matches on the fly to suit them in real life. However, it did come as quite the surprise to a few gamers when they were in the midst of a gripping Money In The Bank Ladder Match only to see Kevin Owens score the pinfall to secure the briefcase. You can just imagine Michael Cole on commentary exclaiming, “To win Money In The Bank, you have to survive seven other superstars and scale that ladder before unlocking the briefcase to guarantee yourself a shot at the World Champion of your choosing.” To which Corey Graves would reply, “Or you could just score a pinfall or submission on your opponent, which brings an all new exciting element to ladder matches!”
6. Running The Ropes
We have all heard the expression, “running the ropes”. Ultimate Warrior took it more literal than most, but needless to say even he would balk at attempting this from Ronda Rousey who repeatedly jumps up and down on the ropes like some over-excited child on Christmas Eve until you decide to give up and restart the match. Things like this should not be happening in a game released in 2019.
6. Hitting Thin Air
If you wanted to see two drunk idiots punch and kick thin air outside a pub in town, I think it’s safe to say you wouldn’t have purchased WWE 2K20 expecting to see that scene replicated. The drunk idiots have been replaced by an array of WWE superstars, but it is no more ridiculous. We know it’s not real guys, but at least attempt to suspend our disbelief. It’s like Shane McMahon when he’s just stood up from one of his insane falls and started to shadow box a ghost.
5. Spinning Around
Even Kylie Minogue didn’t go this far. But this is just ridiculous. You could be in the midst of a five-star classic, when all of a sudden, one of the combatants will start spinning around the ring faster than Lewis Hamilton. Seriously, if they collide with you, its curtains. Hey, that may be a finishing move for someone one day.
4. Disappearing Furniture
Title belts vanishing during entrances isn’t new, but it is still frustrating. However, what’s more annoying is when things start disappearing mid-match. It’s even more galling when it’s a tables bout. I’m telling you, Dynamo has nothing on 2K.
3. Hair Waving In A Non-Existant Breeze
This one is quite comical to be fair, but my word it is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to MyCareer. In this cut scene, both “Red” and “Tre”‘s hair are carelessly swaying in the breeze…in a closed car. That’s some aircon they’ve got there.
2. The Rock
I’m sorry, but if this isn’t a glitch then what the hell is it? Because it certainly is not the Most Electrifying Man In All Of Entertainment. At first glance I thought it was odd of 2K to add Maven as a bonus character. It looks nothing like The Rock. Whoever created him was either drunk or high. I mean, it’s not like it’s hard to find a picture of The Rock is it? Minus Donald Trump, he’s the most famous man on the planet. Just lazy work.
1. Editing Gets Immediately Reversed
You can spend hours creating a brand new arena and logos for WWE’s new flagship show, but once you start the game everything will be reverted back to default. I know it’s how WWE works with storylines these days, but this one is so frustrating. This one has happened to me personally and a few others. Not a fan.
