OVER THE PAST YEAR, THE TERM “HISTORY MAKING” HAS BEEN RECURRING WITHIN THE WWE. THE FIRST THING THAT PROBABLY COMES TO MIND IS “WHICH MALE SUPERSTAR HAS BROKEN A RECORD?”, BUT ONCE AGAIN IT’S THE WOMEN TAKING CENTER STAGE.
April 4th, 2016 at Wrestlemania 32, the “Divas belt” was retired and replaced with something signifying the beginning of a new era for all women from RAW & Smackdown Live. PPV’s that were seemingly male roster focused were expanded into opportunity (Ie. “Hell In A Cell” & “Money In The Bank”), just to name a few. Also, giving us Iron Woman and Steel Cage matches.
Not to be forgotten, Alexa Bliss being the first female to hold BOTH Raw and Smackdown Women’s titles. Now, it could be argued that the overall Women’s Divisions have lacked thought and creativity in booking. That all women should be given fair chance and television air time. Speaking for myself, those are some opinions that have stayed consistent in my mind.
If you aren’t a fan of the WWE, here’s a little bit of a history lesson. January is the official time where we kick off the “Road To WrestleMania”, and the first PPV to kick that off is none other than the “Royal Rumble”. Twenty-nine and now thirty years of memorable entrants and surprising wins.
On Monday, December 18, 2017, Stephanie McMahon made her presence known during Monday Night RAW, but for an incredible reason. Announcing that on January 28, 2018, the FIRST WOMEN’S “Royal Rumble” will break barriers once again.
After the announcement, the twitter-verse exploded with sentiment and excitement, fans and superstars alike. Needless to say, the “Women’s Evolution” has endless opportunity and room for growth in 2018. Plus, I’m sure we’re all anxious to see who or what unexpected moments will show up and happen.
