You might sense a theme that there’s a bit of “it wouldn’t happen today” running through the reasons for choosing these matches but this is another example of how wrestling can be got right by doing something as simple as letting two guys go out there and tear the house down with no restrictions being placed on them. This was everything a great opener of a PPV could be as it showcased two young(ish) mid-carders who wanted to go out and make name for themselves. And the crowd really got into he back and forth action. For a while you could have fooled yourself into thinking this was a breakthrough night for both men. Of course it wasn’t, which might explain why it’s a forgotten match. But watching this again the excited feelings and the sense that this is how wrestlers could, and should, be allowed to get over all came flooding back.
