I was a big advocate of the “YES! movement”. If you couldn’t see that Daniel Bryan had talent, you simply don’t know what you’re talking about.

Guys like Bryan and CM Punk were under looked for so long before they finally got their moments and reached the top of the mountain. They defied the odds. They never gave up. They proved everyone wrong. Daniel Bryan’s retiring was heartbreaking and I don’t think anybody ever expected to see him in the ring again, at least not a WWE ring anyway.

Here we are, August 2018. Daniel Bryan is back and competing again but not hitting the heights that most fans were expecting. Creatively, Bryan hasn’t had a lot going on for himself. It’s great that we get to see him again and it was a hell of a way to reintroduce him on SmackDown LIVE against WWE Champion, AJ Styles. Since then, we have had to endure some pretty weird stuff. The WrestleMania tag match with Shane McMahon against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn made sense but the feud with Big Cass was just horrendous. The matches were poor, the promos were worse. Everything about it was just wrong.

Fast forward a little further and Team Hell No are back….for one night only, apparently. I couldn’t understand that. I’m a big fan of Team Hell No but don’t tease me like that. Don’t bring them back for one pay-per-view and put it to bed. It’s just poor and lazy writing. Now Daniel Bryan is currently locking horns with the Miz which is finally a good idea with some structure and history already in place for what should be a good story and program. I believe both can go on and put on better matches than the one we saw at SummerSlam. It was a fine match but a bit too long. This feud is gripping. Bryan and Miz can both cut promos and are great in the ring. Miz deserves a lot of credit, he’s come a very long way and seems to be getting better and better. Daniel Bryan and The Miz are set to face off again at Hell in a Cell, in a mixed tag match featuring Daniel Bryan’s wife Brie Bella and Miz’s wife, Maryse. Mixed tag matches never usually entice me but I think it will be an interesting angle for the story. It will be nice to see Brie competing again too.

What I want and need to know is; will Daniel Bryan ever be a WWE champion again? SmackDown has big names, no disrespect to The Miz, again, he is a fine worker. Daniel Bryan is exalted in the Pro Wrestling world. He is loved, respected and people want to see him in important matches. The thought of Bryan/Samoa Joe would be superb. Bryan/Hardy, Bryan/Nakamura. There are so many names and potential feuds that people would love to see. Personally, I think if Bryan was to hold a belt again, it would likely be the United States Championship. Which isn’t a problem, we just need to see him in matches that hold more importance and fans are actually behind and invested in the program. Nobody was looking forward to Bryan/Cass. He deserves better and I really hope we get the opportunity to see it.

Daniel Bryan is still yet to pen a new deal with the WWE, with his contact set to expire on September 1st, coincidentally the same day as upcoming pro wrestling pay-per-view, ALL IN. Bryan is however booked for Hell in a Cell which is on September 16th 2018. Bryan last signed a contract with the WWE in 2012, going onto state that his life has dramatically changed since then and he is now married, has a child and has a lot to think about.
