It’s been over one year since Becky Lynch started to call herself The Man, and boy what a year it has been.
In that time, Lynch’s career has skyrocketed and she has become one of, if not the top star in the WWE. She made history at WrestleMania 35, defeating Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair to become both RAW and SmackDown Women’s Champion.
While she may not be atop the blue brand’s women’s division any more, she is still the standard-bearer for WWE’s flagship show. However, her momentum slowed down a little after that fateful night at MetLife Stadium. Her first two title defences came against Lacey Evans and Natalya, two feuds which could easily be described as lacklustre.
She regained some momentum in her most recent feud against Sasha Banks, and was the #1 overall pick in this year’s WWE Draft. Now that she’s taken down The Boss and calls Monday nights home, what’s next for The Man?
The draft brought over some fresh competition for her to face, so let’s take a look at five possible opponents for Lynch and the RAW Women’s Championship.
5. Charlotte Flair
Kicking things off is the most obvious choice. You know what they say: “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”.
Flair and Lynch had perhaps the best feud in wrestling for almost a year, starting at SummerSlam in 2018 and ending at Money in the Bank in 2019. Each match they had could be considered instant classics, especially their Last Woman Standing match at Evolution.
While this is, as mentioned above, the most obvious choice, it’s also the one I’d least like to see happen at this current time. WWE would easily run the risk of overexposing this feud, making it less meaningful the more Flair and Lynch face each other.
Maybe later on they’ll meet inside the ring again, but for now, it’s best that they are kept in separate storylines.
4. Zelina Vega
This next pick is one that I would like to see happen sooner rather than later.
Even though Vega is mainly known for being the business associate of Andrade, she can actually throw down in the ring if need be. If you want an example, go watch her match against Piper Niven in this year’s Worlds Collide special. She’s very talented in the ring and it’s a shame that she doesn’t wrestle more.
She’s also great on the mic, so just imagine her and Lynch going back and forth in a promo. I think it would be a pretty good feud that could surprise a lot of people.
Maybe it’s time to have Vega step out of Andrade’s shadow and forge her own path in WWE, and what better place to start than with the RAW Women’s Champion?
3. Asuka
Up next is one half of the Women’s Tag Team Champions.
Asuka and Lynch have some brief history, starting at TLC in December of 2018. The former won the SmackDown Women’s Championship in the first-ever women’s Tables, Ladders, and Chairs match against the latter and Charlotte Flair, thanks to Ronda Rousey’s interference.
Then the two faced off for the title the following month at the Royal Rumble, where Asuka made Lynch tap out to retain the title. This effectively ended their feud, with Lynch going on to win the women’s Royal Rumble match later that night and choosing to face Rousey at WrestleMania 35.
After eventually losing the SmackDown Women’s Championship to Flair, Asuka teamed up with Kairi Sane and went after the Women’s Tag Team Championships. They finally won the titles several weeks ago at Hell in a Cell, defeating Alexa Bliss and Nikki Cross. The two also turned heel that night, winning the match after Asuka spit the infamous green mist into Cross’ face.
An overconfident Asuka might want to go after the top prize in the RAW Women’s Division, the one title in WWE that she has yet to win. This could make Lynch the underdog once again, having to not only deal with The Empress of Tomorrow, but also Sane as well.
If we’re starting to see the re-emergence of the Asuka that dominated NXT, just imagine the kind of feud that her and Lynch could put together if given the chance.
2. Liv Morgan
Then we move on to a woman who has been absent from WWE programming for quite some time.
Morgan last appeared on the July 16 episode of SmackDown Live, confronting Charlotte Flair. The two had a match later that night, where Morgan lost by submission. Since then, she has only been active on her social media pages.
She was the last overall pick in this year’s draft, being once again sent to RAW. She had previously been on the show after the 2018 Superstar Shake-Up as a part of the Riott Squad.
Granted, this could be considered a filler kind of feud that carries Lynch into a bigger one right after. I still think it could happen regardless; Morgan could use a bigger storyline to get her exposure, especially after being off TV for over three months.
Whether it would actually happen or not remains to be seen, but you never know with WWE and its creative team.
1. Nia Jax
Finally, we come to a feud that would make everything come full circle for Lynch.
As many remember, it was Jax who threw the infamous punch that broke Lynch’s nose and gave her a concussion during the RAW invasion angle on November 12th, 2018. This caused the highly-anticipated Survivor Series match between Lynch and Ronda Rousey to be scrapped, with Charlotte Flair taking Lynch’s place.
Besides several stare downs between the two, Jax and Lynch have never been in a proper feud together. The Man is always looking to collect debts, and I’m sure she would love nothing more than to humble Jax and make her tap out to the Dis-Arm-Her.
The only problem is that The Irresistible Force is currently out of action after having surgery on both her knees. She could possibly return by the end of the year, maybe sooner. Regardless, these two need to face each other as soon as humanly possible.
Jax got an extreme amount of heat for hurting Lynch, so I’m sure fans would love to see The Man get some payback. On the flip side, WWE could get even more heat on Jax if she were to beat Lynch for the RAW Women’s Championship.
Either way, a feud between the two is something I’m sure a lot of people want to see happen in the near future.
