Kevin Owens does not have the best track record regarding tag team partners in the WWE. If you usually unwind watching WWE action after trying your luck on Lucky Nuggets casino from their online casino platform, you must know something about that. Ordinarily, he ends up turning against them, and it is difficult for anyone to believe that a tag team with Owens in it would last for long.
Despite his poor reputation as far as tag teams are concerned, he has still pitched to WWE about being in a tag team anyway. In a WWE media call, Owens revealed to Alex McCarthy (TalkSport) that he had pitched suggestions on various new tag teams to the WWE creative.
The names he mentioned include “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles, the head of RETRIBUTION in Mustafa Ali. He also named Apollo Crews, Daniel Bryan, and Sami Zayn. Sami, an Intercontinental Champion, is his long-time adversary and ally.
The tag title is the only thing that has evaded Kevin Owens in his illustrious wrestling career. So far, he has won the Universal, United States, and Intercontinental Titles in WWE. He has tried his luck before teaming up with Sami Zyan, but they never won a championship. After their unsuccessful bids, the two went their separate ways.
AJ Styles? Daniel Bryan? Apollo Crews?
So far, he has already teamed up with Sami Zayn, and it did not work out (RIP El Generico). He has also been considering Bryan for some time. Owens pitched the idea of joining forces with Bryan on a SmackDown episode in October. Since then, they have moved Owens into a dispute with Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at TLC. But nothing stops them from coming together once they wrap the row up.
It would be great to see Owens have a WWE tag title run with a partner he wasn’t destined to turn on. In case Owens fails to capture the Universal Championship from Reigns this Sunday at the TLC, perhaps the WWE Universe will see something like that come about in 2021.
However, the two teaming up would form some sort of dream team. Unfortunately, AJ Styles is on Raw while Owens is on SmackDown, so that will not happen any time soon.
In the interview, Owens revealed that he had repeatedly requested the WWE management to partner him with an elite athlete as a tag team partner because he also wanted to work in pairs and not singles only. It seems the WWE management does not wish for Owens to work in pairs at the moment, at least not with the athletes he has pitched for.
The WWE staged different plans for the athletes Owens had requested to be in a tag team with. For instance, AJ Styles is now challenging Drew McIntyre at TLC and has his own bodyguard in Jordan Omogbehin, and Mustafa Ali became the leader of RETRIBUTION. On the other hand, Apollo Crews disappeared from our screens with no notable plans for him after the long feud with The Hurt Business, who are now recruiting Ricochet.
What Next For Owens?
At the moment, Owens will have to finish the feud with Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at TLC. In truth, no one is expecting Kevin to win the championship at TLC as Roman is on course for the Main Event of Wrestlemania, potentially with The Rock. That leaves Kevin once again in limbo, so maybe they can return to having the tag team conversation of Kevin Owens and he can finish off his set?
