Legends of Wrestling – Various Episodes
    (Chosen by Tyler Parsons)

History is written by the victor (not Rick). When it comes to Professional Wrestling those victors are Vince McMahon and WWE. With ownership of the tape libraries of every major US promotion (save Memphis) distribution and recording of history falls on the shoulders of WWE. With the international release of the WWE Network distribution is going to happen on a scale like never before. One of the shows I think deserves your attention is The Legends of Wrestling roundtable discussions.

The series was designed and executed for the now defunct WWE Classics on Demand channel. However the entire 33 episode run is up on The Network and despite being a couple of years old is an incredible, enthralling history of wrestling. Hosted by Mean Gene or Good Ol’ JR (and a couple times by Joey Styles) the series features a who’s who list of names shooting straight on a wide range of topics. Just in case some of you don’t have 33 hours immediately available, here in no particular order, are some episodes I think are must see.

    The Canadian Effect: Episode 27

A panel of Michael Hayes, Jim Ross, Pat Patterson and Bret “Hitman” Hart are lead by Mean Gene in a discussion on Canada’s influence on wrestling. From tales of the Hart family and working in Calgary to Pat talking about the old days (he debuted in 1958) of Montreal this a fantastic episode.

    The Territories: Episode 11

Jim Ross hosts Pat Patterson, Mick Foley, Michael Hayes and Taz as they break down the nearly forgotten era of the territory system. If you’ve ever wanted a really great primer on how it was before Vince Jr. went national this is a fantastic starting place.

    Celebrity Effect: Episode 31

DDP, Jim Ross, Michael Hayes and Roddy Piper are corralled by Mean Gene in a lively talk about the positive and negative impact celebrities have had on wrestling. Mr. T, Pete Rose, David Arquette, all are discussed. Quite frankly this entire episode is worth it for DDP’s vehement defense of Karl Malone. You’d think he was the guy’s manager.

    Overachievers & Underachievers: Episode 25

If it’s something the guys like to talk about it’s one another. Mean Gene hosts Jim Ross, Sgt Slaughter, J.J. Dillon and Ted DiBiase in a riveting discussion on who overwhelmed, underwhelmed and plain ol’ whelmed them. Who had all the tools but just couldn’t make it? Who survived in a world of giants? This one is packed with great points and good old fashioned dirt slinging.

So there you have it folks! The Network is here, it’s yours and we’ve provided you with what we feel is an incredibly balanced foundation with which to get started.

Do you already have the WWE Network? What would you suggest people watch? Let us know in the comments.
