WCW Superbrawl III
(Chosen by Matthew Roberts)
I singled this out in the first instance because the main event match between Sting and Big Van Vader deserves to be highlighted as both an excellent match and a must-see representation of one of WCW’s greatest ever feuds. These two were simply great together. But don’t feel you have to skip to the end of the show; there is plenty on the undercard to get excited about too.
Chris Benoit and Too Cold Scorpio have a mini-classic that would be revered around the world if it had taken place in ECW a couple of years later. I was stunned by this match at the time and it is still well worth viewing today. We get to see the Steve Austin and Brian Pillman Hollywood Blondes team in action, which is always a thrill. WCW dropped the ball with that duo, who got over huge without the permission of the booking squad, but it kind of worked out ok for Austin at least all things considered. UK fans will be interested to see the WCW debut of our favourite son Davey Boy Smith and I personally will always mark out for some Smoky Mountain Wrestling related activity and we get that here as the Heavenly Bodies “invade” to tackle the Rock ‘n’ Roll Express.
Throw in a stiff Cactus Jack/Paul Orndorff Falls Count Anywhere match, Dustin Rhodes battling Maxx Payne (who WWF fans might remember as Man Mountain Rock) and Barry Windham clashing with The Great Muta and you have a show well worth your time.
