Last week we reported on WWE leaving the Performance Center and heading to the Amway Center. Many assumed WWE’s main reason for moving production was to allow fans to return, this isn’t the case.
WWE moved all production to the Performace Center in mid-March due to the global pandemic. Since then almost all WWE content has been filmed at the WWE owned location, the only exceptions being special attraction matches. This meant that WWE’s biggest event of the year, WrestleMania, was also filmed on a closed set. It is believed that this is a big part of the decision to move. WWE has never been a studio-based show (like NWA Powerrr), touring around since the company was originally formed in 1957.
Jon Alba, the host of the Living The Gimmick podcast, has reported that WWE’s contract with Amway runs through to October 30, but does not include fans.
It is thought that WWE could try to amend the deal. Vince has been clear about views regarding the lack of live audience affecting the production. However, this could prove tricky to do in the timeframe considering how polarising COVID related decisions are at the moment.
