WWE has been in a state of change since around maybe 2012 or early 2013. With the rise of The Shield as a stable to then becoming successful singles stars, to Daniel Bryan winning the WWE World Heavyweight Championship in the main event of WrestleMania, to Roman Reigns proving his time to shine is nearing. with dominant performances at Survivor Series 2013 and the 2014 Royal Rumble match.
There is just one problem I have with Reigns and I feel it’s really simple to turn around, and that is the fact that WWE haven’t built him up properly since breaking away from The Shield, despite owning two pin fall victories over a former 12-time World Champion Randy Orton. We’ve seen him beat Kane many times, but that match has become extremely stale and shows as no purpose in helping Reigns develop as a main event talent.
His match with Seth Rollins on RAW was extremely impressive, and their rematch at Night of Champions will no doubt help, but who else could help Reigns develop himself as a mainstay in the upper card? I give to you three potential opponents that could help him become a marketable and ready main event talent.
Dean Ambrose
We all know that Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns have been the two remaining members of the group formerly known as The Shield. But, with Ambrose taken out by The Authority, and him seemingly outshining Reigns in his feud with Seth Rollins, I could totally see an Ambrose heel turn that would lead into a feud with Reigns. Ambrose can help Reigns develop his move set and show that he can excel in big match-types (which I feel he failed to do against Orton).
Bray Wyatt
The Wyatt Family’s feud with The Shield earlier in 2014 is what many considered a dream come true. But beyond being the charismatic leader of a faction that has a growing fanbase, Bray Wyatt has proven he is ready to take the helm as a potential top guy in the WWE. His feud with John Cena excelled him to that level, and I think a feud with Roman Reigns would help Reigns out, much like Ambrose would. We all know that Reigns isn’t the best on the mic, and a verbal war with Bray Wyatt who is arguably the best speaker currently in the company would really help him excel his charisma. Not just that, but, Bray is also a talented guy in the ring that would prove that Reigns has stepped up in a big way in the ring, beyond being just a “clothesline, clothesline, dropkick, punch, spear” kind of guy.
I understand that generally all WWE’s babyfaces have a limited moveset, but with Cena stepping up in big match situations to prove he can do more shows that Reigns must do the same.
Triple H
Triple H could really help Reigns in pretty much all aspects of his career. On the mic, in the ring, and general ring awareness. He’s is a well-known veteran that has enhanced the careers of many big name stars, a list that includes Randy Orton, Batista, John Cena, and Daniel Bryan. We all saw just how much talent “The Game” has in his match with Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania 30, where the two had the best match on the card. I do believe that we may get this match somewhere down the line, but if Reigns is going to be the next big face of the company and will take the title off of Lesnar at WrestleMania 31, I definitely expect him to prove his worth much more than he has now.
