We are merely a few days away from the Royal Rumble and the excitement is building. Regardless of how the WWE is viewed nowadays this is still one of the most anticipated pay per views of the year.
The reason why the excitement is usually at a fever pitch when the Royal Rumble pay per view comes around is the titular match itself. With a new superstar coming out every 90 or so seconds we are guaranteed to have a mile a minute match that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
Another reason why people get so excited about the Rumble match has to be the surprise entrants. Every year we are assured that there will be a few surprise entrants into the Rumble match and the ones that get the biggest pop are returning superstars or a legend from the past.
What returning superstars or legends from the past do we have to look forward to this year? Which man or woman returning through that curtain will make us jump out of our seats and cheer? Let’s take a look below at some of the possible suspects for a Rumble return.
Trish Stratus
On a recent wrestling podcast, Trish has stated that she has been in contact with the WWE performance center. She had told the podcast that she is interested in becoming a trainer/coach for the developmental brand, NXT.
With that news, it is not hard to imagine that she may be making an appearance in the Rumble match come Jan.31st.
The only thing holding her back is the fact that she is Canadian and as of right now there is no traveling across the border. So time may not be on her side for a Rumble surprise.
Melina
Melina had just recently made a comeback appearance on the Legends Night edition of Raw. While the appearance itself left a lot to be desired it does beg the question of whether it will lead to more.
One would hope that since she has not been in the WWE for years that Vince would not waste a return on a 15-second backstage segment. It would be great to see her make her in-ring return at the Royal Rumble.
Mickie James / Torrie Wilson / Alicia Fox
These women were all in attendance for Raw Legends night. As with Melina, it would be strange for Vince to have these women come in for a one-off so close to the Rumble match.
The Rock
This may be an every-year prediction but with Roman Reigns being the Head of the Table on Smackdown it could be a good chance that the Brahma Bull shows up to the Rumble.
There have also been rumours circulating for a while now that Roman and The Rock could square off at Wrestlemania 37 for the Universal Championship so it could make sense to have the Rock not only enter the Rumble but win the match itself.
Goldberg
This prediction may have lost a bit of steam over the past few days. After Raw this week it looks like Goldberg is headed for a showdown with Drew McIntrye at the Royal Rumble.
Still, there has been a lot of trash talk going on between Reigns and Goldberg and they were initially set to square off at mania last year. Is there a chance that Goldberg pulls double duty and shows up to win the Rumble match?
Brock Lesnar
The beast has not been seen in the WWE in quite some time and the ratings aren’t doing very well. Vince could always go back to old faithful and have Brock make his return during the Rumble match.
Carlito
Despite an advertised appearance this past Monday the man from the Caribbean was nowhere to be seen. Reports have surfaced that he is in incredible shape and at 41 years old he still has some gas left in the tank. It would be a great site to see the coolest man in the WWE make his return to spit some apples the faces of the Rumble entrants.
