10 – Sting’s first match in WWE

    Sting vs. HHH WrestleMania 31

For a moment wrestling fans had waited over two decades for, Sting and WWE finally settled all their differences and agreed upon a deal so the veteran could start working with the company.

The big speculation was who his first opponent would be. Many suspected The Undertaker, but after Brock Lesnar snapped The Phenom’s streak at WrestleMania XXX, his status was unknown for the event at the time of planning Sting’s storyline. Instead he faced Triple H, in what would essentially become The Invasion Part II.

Both men obviously past their prime, it was still considered the match of the century as, well, if calculated together, the combined age of the two competitors was indeed one century. The match wasn’t the best, the ending was all kinds of crap, but if you put it in storyline terms, it kind of worked.

Neither Triple H nor Sting were actively part of the original Invasion storyline back in 2001 when Vince McMahon purchased WCW. Triple H was out with a lengthy injury and Sting was sitting on guaranteed money from his WCW contract until 2002. So, with Triple H’s sledgehammer blow, we now finally have closure on who won the Invasion storyline, just in case you missed it 14 years ago.

Oh, and the NWO and DX were there. That part was pretty cool too.
