5 – Lesnar vs. Undertaker HIAC match

Lesnar vs. Undertaker Hell In A Cell

A rivalry that started over a decade ago with Brock Lesnar’s first run in the company finally culminated in October 2015, when Lesnar defeated the Undertaker in a vicious Hell In A Cell match.

The first section of their rivalry saw violence in abundance as their first PPV match saw a double disqualification before Undertaker hurled Lesnar through the stage set. The conclusion of the rivalry at that time was seen at No Mercy back in 2002 as Lesnar beat The Undertaker in their first hellacious encounter inside the cell.

Fast forward twelve years to April 6, 2014 where Lesnar and Taker did it all over again at WrestleMania XXX. Details needn’t be shared for this part as the entire WWE Universe and beyond knows what happened. 21-1.

Fast forward another 16 months to Summerslam 2015, after Undertaker interrupted Lesnar’s match with Seth Rollins at Battleground the month before and yet another match was set between the two. The pair had brawled their way through the arena the night after Battleground on RAW, so the stage was set, and the audience salivated at the renewal of this rivalry.

At Summerslam, it was everything the audience wanted or needed to see. Brutality ensued, tables were broken and there was even a questionable finish to end the proceedings, with The Undertaker coming out as the bad guy, no less. As Lesnar had his back turned to Taker after the bell was rung – but not indicated by the referee to do so – Taker delivered the low blow to Lesnar, before putting him in the Hell’s Gate submission. One final act of defiance by Lesnar, who gave Undertaker the finger, was seen before Lesnar passed out. It was the perfect set up – 1-1 over two contests since Lesnar’s return, who would win the rubber match?

The Hell In A Cell match trumped all of the previous matches though. Once again, blood was shed, bodies were broken, and this time, even the ring itself was ripped apart by the Beast Incarnate. After a Tombstone Piledriver onto the exposed wood below the mat, the crowd thought The Undertaker had finally beaten the beast who had plagued him for so long, but Lesnar could not be kept down, eventually hitting a devastating F-5 onto the wood to seal the victory.
