After spending quite a while antagonising Otis into putting his Money in the Bank briefcase on the line, The Miz, with a little help from Otis’ former tag partner Tucker, The Miz defeated Otis to win the Money in the Bank briefcase, holding it for the second time in his career, after winning the RAW Money in the Bank Ladder match back at the very first Money in the Bank pay-per-view in 2010.
Back in 2010, The Miz was on the run of his life, as he won the briefcase while also holding the United States Championship. Although he did lose the United States title to Daniel Bryan at Night of Champions, Miz picked up some big victories on the lead-up to his cash-in, defeating John Cena to become the captain of Team RAW at Bragging Rights, only for Team RAW to lose to Team SmackDown. Miz would hold onto the Money in the Bank briefcase until one night after Survivor Series 2010, where he would cash in on Randy Orton, following Orton retaining the title against Wade Barrett. The Miz would keep the title for one hundred and sixty days, losing the title to John Cena at the 2012 Extreme Rules pay-per-view in a triple threat Steel Cage match, which also involved his current tag team partner, John Morrison.
Since the beginning of 2020, The Miz has been on an incredible run, winning the SmackDown Tag Team Championships with his recently returned tag team partner John Morrison. Miz and Morrison began their rivalry with Heavy Machinery and made it personal when The Miz convinced management to trade Otis’ girlfriend, Mandy Rose, to the Raw brand as a way to “help Otis” so he could focus on the contract. The Miz filed a lawsuit on Otis, with the trial commencing only a few days before the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. At the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, The Miz defeated Otis to win the Money in the Bank briefcase, due to a betrayal from Otis’ now-former tag partner Tucker who hit Otis in the back with the briefcase.
With the victory at Hell in a Cell, The Miz is now the third wrestler to win the briefcase twice, with him being the second not to do so in the actual Money in the Bank Ladder match. With Otis moving onto a rivalry with Tucker, The Miz can now focus on cashing in the briefcase, and, with Miz being on the RAW brand, it can only be assumed that he will be chasing the WWE Championship, currently being held by Randy Orton. WWE seemed to have gone back in time, as both Randy Orton and The Miz are in the exact same position they were ten years ago. Since the end of the Hell in a Cell pay-per-view, I have only had one thought: The Miz can make history at Survivor Series. The date of his first cash-in was November 22nd, 2010. The date of Survivor Series is November 22nd, 2020. The MIz can become the first person to, not only cash-in on the exact same person twice but also on the same date.
With it being a huge doubt that Miz would cash in on Roman Reigns, Randy Orton seems to be the only viable choice for Miz to cash-in on. When Otis was Mr Money in the Bank though, my original thought was that he would be the first person to not cash-in for a World title opportunity but for a tag team title opportunity instead. The Miz could do this, with John Morrison, especially with their history with the current RAW Tag Team Champions The New Day.
The Miz’s last ten years make him an almost guaranteed future WWE Hall of Famer but you can only imagine that Miz has not stopped thinking about potentially holding the WWE Championship once again. He did so well as champion back in 2010, even main eventing WrestleMania against John Cena. WWE carbon copying their WWE title picture from ten years ago is something nobody saw coming but it would be pretty incredible if they were to make Miz cash in on the exact same person on the exact same date, only ten years apart. Survivor Series is coming up and they do love their history in regards to that pay-per-view. It would be a pretty big missed opportunity if they weren’t to take advantage of it.
