Let’s face it, we all know why Vince McMahon has decided on a two-night WrestleMania this year, and that’s money. Due to the ongoing worldwide pandemic, social distancing is still a thing, meaning he can’t sell out the stadium, with it being capped at 25,000 tickets. So he’s going to split it into two evenings and sell 50,000 tickets. Smart. But couldn’t he have made a little effort in creating a show people actually want to watch? Because right now, I’d rather watch a Tottenham Hotspur season review DVD. Okay, maybe not, but you get my point.
There’s a lot of financial benefits to hosting two-nights of WrestleMania, but the negatives far outweigh them. Firstly, they need to get their roster over enough to warrant fans spending their hard-earned money on to see.
Secondly, create a card that’s literally too big for one night, and not by filling it with matches that would look more at home on an episode of Main Event. And thirdly, make WrestleMania feel special again. I don’t know about you, but it’s really lost its lustre in recent years, and after seeing it inside an empty warehouse, the whole aura has vanished.
It’s all a moot point anyway because we already know the next three WrestleManias will be back to their usual one night affairs, albeit most probably at seven hours length. But by then, they may not be able to fall on the pandemic as an excuse for only selling out a quarter of a giant stadium.
Whatever happens, Vince McMahon and co have an uphill battle on their hands to bring back the masses and deliver a product worthy of our valuable time, and making WrestleMania ten hours or signing Logan Paul just isn’t going to cut it.
