Former 2K developer says a ‘different’ WWE game will be launched instead

    UPDATE: Vince McMahon has confirmed in WWE’s Q1 financial meeting that 2K21 will not be released.

    Reports have surfaced saying that there will be no WWE2K21 this year. Former WWE Games writer Justin Leeper published a video saying big changes will be coming this year.

    Leeper said in the video;

    “I have heard from reliable sources and I truly believe that WWE 2K21 has been cancelled. There will be no game this year.”

    He made this conclusion to the fact that no new game was launched at this years WrestleMania, the place where most new WWE games are announced.

    Leeper alluded to a number of factors being the reason behind this, including;

    • Changes behind the scenes, particularly the split between 2K and the series’ long-time developer Yuke’s
    • Visual Concepts needs more time to become better accustomed to the wrestling game process
    • The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted production and distribution

    However, Leeper did say fans will not go without as 2K will release a “pallet cleanser” this year, saying;

    “I have heard also that there is another WWE game this year, that 2K is publishing a different kind of WWE game from a different kind of developer that’s not Visual Concepts. I could say more on that, but I won’t because I’ve already probably pissed off a lot of people at 2K.”

    Another interesting note is that Leeper said 2K22 will go ahead, but it will not be on the next-generation consoles. Instead, it will still be released for PS4, Xbox One and “probably PC.”

    2K20 has been plagued with problems since it’s release and a series of bizarre DLC’s that were met with dismay from fans.

    2K Games have not made a statement in regards to this.
